We are thrilled to announce the following Leadership Courses at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre during the months of July & August, 2017!


Bronze Star/CPR A Course

Bronze Star provides excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. Includes a timed 400 m swim.

  • Prerequisite: None
  • Course Length: Recommended 12-15 hours
  • Textbook: Canadian Lifesaving Manual(Recommended)

Dates: July 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2017 
Location: Kinsmen Aquatic Centre
Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day
Cost: $125.00 (includes the Canadian Lifesaving Manual)

Bronze Medallion/Emergency First Aid & CPR B Course

Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles that make up the four components of water rescue – judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows, carries, and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers learn to respond to increasingly complex situations involving conscious and unconscious victims in contact and non-contact rescues. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance with a timed swim.

  • Prerequisite: Bronze Star or 13-years-old by exam day
  • Course Length: 30 hours
  • Textbook: Canadian Lifesaving Manual & Canadian First Aid Manual

Dates: July 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th, 2017
Location: Kinsmen Aquatic Centre
Time: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day
Cost: $175.00 (includes CLSM & Canadian First Aid Manuals)

Dates: July 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2017
Location: Kinsmen Aquatic Centre
Time: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day
Cost: $200.00 (includes all manuals)

National Lifeguard Course

National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard’s role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. The Lifesaving Society trains all of Canada’s National Lifeguard.

Prerequisites: minimum 16 years of age by date of exam, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care.

What do I learn in the National Lifeguard course?

In the National Lifeguard course, you’ll develop develop teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. You’ll learn about lifeguarding principles and focus on preventing incidents from happening. You’ll learn how to respond to a variety of emergencies. You’ll also challenge your physical fitness. See the video to the right to learn about National Lifeguard Pool physical standards.

This course will take place on the following dates at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre:

Dates: August 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th, 30th, 2017
Location: Kinsmen Aquatic Centre
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day
Cost: $350 which includes all necessary materials to complete the course
